Bundesliga: Bayern likes luck more than Arminia

On Easter Sunday (17.04.22) leaders Bayern Munich got three more points without a shine at the Bielefelder Alm. The hosts held back bravely, but simply had no luck in the game.

The record champions presented themselves as clearly superior to the field from the start, but Arminia had the first goal approach through Wimmer (8th). However, an own goal by Jacob Laursen gave the front runner the lead (10′). Serge Gnabry increased after a fine pass from Joshua Kimmich shortly before the break (45th). Jamal Musiala scored the final point after a pass from Robert Lewandowski (85′).

“Of course that was a bit of frustration relief,” said goal scorer Serge Gnabry at DAZN, “but in the end football keeps going. Today it was a new game, our goal was to win it. And that’s what we did.” Joshua Kimmich added: “It was a deserved win.”

Neither of them use their chances

After the opening goal, Bayern’s Leon Goretzka had two top-class chances (13′, 16′), Okugawa missed the chance to equalize (13′). As a result, the Reds were almost always in the forward gear, but lost their determination in the last third of the field. So they missed further clear conclusions. The East Westphalians suddenly turned up the heat in the final phase and almost equalized with an offside goal by Okugawa (44′) and Prietl’s header (45’+6′).

In the second half of the game, Bayern slowed down and hardly created any chances to score. In accordance with the rules, referee Matthias Jöllenbeck did not interpret repeated close foul situations in favor of the hosts, the most controversial was a foul by Tanguy Nianzou Kouassi on Fabian Kunze shortly before the change of sides, in which the Bayern defender rammed his forearm into the Bielefeld man’s neck in an aerial duel, for which the referee only showed the yellow card.

“That was clearly red for me,” said Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann after the game, “the young player has to learn that you’re more careful when it comes to your head.” The coach replaced Nianzou in the second half “for educational reasons”. Kunze was carried off the pitch in a neck cuff and taken to the hospital.

Good opportunities in Bielefeld, but Bayern have Neuer

Arminia bravely worked forward in the second 45 minutes, but failed to score several times because of Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer. But Bayern were also looking for the next goal. After another brilliant save by Neuer, Jamal Musiala launched the counterattack. Lewandowski served the German national player ideally from the left, Musiala scored in the style of a center forward from close range.

Cologne versus Bielefeld, Bayern versus Dortmund

Arminia Bielefeld has to play against Cologne on the next match day (Saturday, 23.04.22, 3.30 p.m.), Bayern plays Borussia Dortmund on the same day (6.30 p.m.) and could seal the championship there with a win.
