Carl Zeller’s “The Bird Dealer” comes to the stage at the Gärtnerplatztheater. Director Bernd Mottl tried to give the operetta a modern touch. The result was a very tipsy carnival frenzy.
You just have to like him, even if he’s a Hallodri and just wants to send his beloved Christel into the desert out of ridiculous jealousy. Only slowly does he find his way out of his offended male vanity and the two finally become a couple. The young Matteo Ivan Rašić sings this Adam, the title role of Carl Zeller’s “The Bird Dealer”, at the Gärtnerplatztheater with a rascally lyrical tenor and plays him with disarming charm and great stage presence.
