The SPD budget politician Andreas Schwarz advocates for a new model: Defense and civil defense spending should be permanently excluded from the debt brake because of the uncertainties in the USA and because of the threat from Russia. “Removing all defense costs from the debt brake would definitely be attractive,” said Schwarz South German newspaper. “There is a lot of catching up to do, and the threat from Russia will not go away.” The CDU defense politician Roderich Kiesewetter, on the other hand, can imagine an increase in the Bundeswehr’s special funds to up to 300 billion.
