Biathlon: Herrmann-Wick wins silver in the pursuit of the World Cup

Denise Herrmann-Wick won her second medal at the Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof. Two days after winning the sprint, the 34-year-old took silver in the pursuit on Sunday. “It was amazing, a pleasure, that was the peak of the mood, even if my legs burned a lot. It was really cool. I tried to get everything out,” said Herrmann-Wick.

The German made four penalties in Thuringia and was only beaten by Julia Simon of France (1 penalty), 27.0 seconds back. Bronze went to Norway’s Marte Olsbu Röiseland (3).

Herrmann-Wick had the chance to win her second World Championship title at the Rennsteig up until the last shooting, but then had two penalties. “I wanted to score and knew that the grand finale was coming. Unfortunately, I lost out. Another zero, that would have been it,” said Herrmann-Wick after her eighth World Cup medal on ZDF. “Everything is great. This is biathlon. A last shot can sometimes go wrong,” said national coach Kristian Mehringer calmly. You now notice that “the legs need a bit of a treat first”. Herrmann-Wick gets it: Only on Wednesday does the individual race continue over 15 km.

From a German point of view, Laura Dahlmeier last won medals in sprint and pursuit at the same World Cup in Östersund in 2019. Herrmann-Wick has already won the pursuit title in the same title fights, and the former cross-country skier has now won a total of eight World Championship medals. For the German team it was the second medal in the fourth competition in Oberhof; Sophia Schneider (4 errors/+1:08.3 minutes) and Hanna Kebinger (2 errors/+1:21.5) rounded off the strong result for the German Ski Association (DSV) in fifth and eighth place.
