While films about illness and Nazis are being shown in the Berlinale competition, the lesbian thriller “Love Lies Bleeding” is thrilling the audience. Also because a Hollywood star is involved with full physical effort.
Does that have to be all? Her brother-in-law has his jaw smashed on a tabletop. Her sister is beaten into a coma. Her father is a gun nut and eats live stag beetles when he’s really angry.
It may be a matter of taste, but Kristen Stewart’s new film “Love Lies Bleeding” is doing this year’s Berlinale extremely well. Because he basically tells one of the usual brutal stories that were otherwise reserved for macho men and other wide-legged men – and then puts women at the center. Women who love women and quickly respond to men’s attacks with their fist. Or a pistol.
