Bavaria advertises rail operations in the Werdenfels network – Bavaria

The Bavarian Railway Company is re-tendering the train service in the Werdenfels network, which was recently extremely prone to breakdowns, between Munich, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and neighboring Tyrol. To this end, the state-owned company, which is planning Bavarian regional transport by rail, together with the Verkehrsverbund Tirol, is looking for a railway company that will operate the railway lines in the direction of Weilheim, Murnau, Oberammergau, Mittenwald, Kochel and via Tyrol to Pfronten im Allgaeu served. Among other things, she is asking the future operator for an hourly direct connection from Munich via Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Innsbruck as well as trains with in some cases significantly more seats than before. Depending on the financing by the federal government, there should be a largely half-hourly service to Murnau.

The Werdenfels network, which is still largely single-track, is currently served by Deutsche Bahn. The tracks, which are in severe need of renovation in some sections, remain the responsibility of DB Netz AG, regardless of the future train operator. After the train accident near Burgrain in early June with five dead and dozens injured, train traffic in large parts of the region was stopped for weeks due to ailing tracks for safety reasons. The DB had announced that it would invest 80 million euros in the short-term in the renovation of the Werdenfels and the neighboring Oberland network, and recently increased this sum to more than 100 million.
