Basketball – FC Bayern is only barely subject to Madrid – sport

Bayern Munich’s basketball players missed a surprise against favorites Real Madrid in the Euroleague on Friday evening. In front of 4982 spectators in the Audi Dome, the German cup winner lost against the Spanish top club 76:80 (32:43). After all, Munich fulfilled the wish of their coach Andrea Trinchieri to perform much better than in the embarrassing 70:90 league breakdown during the week in Würzburg. Nevertheless, it was not enough against the star ensemble from Madrid, although Bayern were an equal opponent for over three quarters of the game. They equalized the fast 4:11 deficit and, thanks to their best scorer that evening, Augustine Rubit, took the lead with 17:13. After that, however, their hit rate left a lot to be desired, while Madrid’s long-time national player Sergio Llull scored his first two threesomes. The Madrilenians, equipped with an impressive size advantage – their longest player, Walter Tavares, measures 2.20 meters – went into the half-time break with a 43:32 lead. Then Bayern caught up again and they countered, also thanks to Darrun Hilliard, who after Rubit (20) scored the most points for Bayern (16). Rubit equalized with a free throw at 53:53. With a two-point deficit, Munich, who had polished their balance sheet with three wins in a row after the four defeats at the start of the season, went into the last quarter. Hilliard put them in the lead, the game was open until 26 seconds before the end. But Madrid had better nerves.
