Munich – After much back and forth, FC Bayern now has a new coach! According to AZ information, on Saturday afternoon there was an agreement between the bosses of FC Bayern and Burnley owner Alan Pace regarding the signing of Vincent Kompany.
Double-digit million transfer fee for Burnley
The transfer fee is at least twelve million euros. When the “Clarets” found out that the record champions were prepared to pay up to 18 million euros for Crystal Palace coach Oliver Glasner, Burnley also wanted their piece of the pie – and ultimately got it.
In Munich, Kompany will receive a contract until 2027. The official signing of the contract and the first photos of Kompany as the new Bayern coach will follow in the next few days.
“The best decision”: Pep also raves about Kompany deal
While there are doubts in Germany about employing the former world-class defender, one person has nothing but raves about Kompany: former Bayern coach Pep Guardiola. The Catalan is “happy about the link between Bayern and Vinnie,” he said in his eulogy ahead of the FA Cup final. “I have a very high opinion of him, even though he was relegated with Burnley. I have a very high opinion of his work, his personality, his knowledge of the game, how he deals with the media. I would be happy if Bayern made the best decision – they deserve it. I love the club, I love Bayern Munich, for many, many reasons, especially the people there.”
Kompany spent three years learning from Guardiola at Manchester City before the 38-year-old began working as a player-coach and later as a coach at youth club RSC Anderlecht. Kompany has been at Burnley since June 2022 and led the club to promotion to the Premier League with 101 points in his first season. At the end of the last season, however, they were relegated straight back – and now they’re moving to FC Bayern.
