Banks – Less profit at KfW – Economy

The profit of the state development bank KfW fell last year due to a decline in net interest income. The bank generated a consolidated profit of 1.37 billion euros in 2022 after 2.2 billion in the previous year, as announced by KfW. “In the exceptional year 2022, despite all the special tasks as a result of the Ukraine war, we recorded a pleasing result at the level of the years before the crisis,” explained KfW boss Stefan Wintels. At the end of January, the bank had already announced the amount of the funding volume for 2022 of 166.9 billion euros. The primary reason for the exceptional year for the development bank was the cost of supporting energy suppliers. KfW also expects a gloomy outlook for the sectors and countries for the current year.
