AVM: FRITZ!Box 6670 with WiFi-7 goes on sale

AVM showed, among other things, the FRITZ!Box 6670 Cable at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The router is not a novelty at the trade fair. Instead, the cable connection product was presented to the public for the first time a year ago. And yet the Berlin manufacturer has mentioned an innovation in connection with the FRITZ!Box 6670 Cable: The device is scheduled to go on sale in Germany in the next few days. The router should cost 289 euros.

The FRITZ!Box 6670 Cable offers support for the current WLAN standard WiFi 7 as well as smart home with the DECT ULE, Zigbee and Matter standards. The box is intended for operation on cable connections where the DOCSIS 3.1 standard is used. The router works with channel bundling (2×2 OFDM(A) and 32×8 SC-QAM). Data transfer speeds of up to 720 MBit/s in the 2.4 GHz range and up to 2880 MBit/s in the 5 GHz range are achieved via WLAN.

2.5 GBit/s via LAN/WAN port

The FRITZ!Box 6670 Cable can not only accept devices into the home network via WLAN. There are also four LAN ports available, each enabling data transfers of up to 1 Gbit/s. There is also a 2.5 Gbit/s LAN/WAN port. The router can also be used as a telephone system. In addition to the option of integrating DECT telephones, a TAE socket is also available.

In an interview with teltarif.de, AVM press representatives explained at the MWC that the manufacturer attaches great importance to these physical connection options, especially since the socket can be installed without any problems. Internal S0 buses, which AVM has stopped installing in newer routers for some time now, are apparently more problematic – to the annoyance of customers who still use end devices that were actually intended for ISDN connections.

Integrated TV tuner

As is usual with FRITZ!Boxes for cable connections, the new model also has an integrated TV tuner. This enables streaming unencrypted cable TV programs within the home network. The streams can be used, for example, via the FRITZ!App TV.

Further features include integrated parental controls, a media server, FRITZ!NAS and WLAN guest access. A USB 2.0 port was also installed. Storage media and printers can be connected here. Alternatively, the USB socket can also be used for mobile phone sticks, which can be used to establish the data connection as an alternative to the cable connection.

We have already reported on the new FRITZ!OS version 7.80 in another report.
