Augsburg: Plans for the Brecht Festival 2022 – Munich

In these days when traveling is not an easy routine, it is a motto that is as courageous as it is hopeful: “Worldwide Brecht”. Your third and thus last Brecht Festival in Augsburg, the two artistic directors Jürgen Kuttner and Tom Kühnel put them into this bracket. From February 18 to 27, 2022, the festival is to be seen both digitally and live. Kuttner and Kühnel understand their third edition, which they have just presented to the culture committee, as a synthesis of the first two, the merging of spectacles and network productions.

The Brechtfestival 2022 should be a mixture of the different genres, which in principle is not an innovation. The duo only had to forego the visual arts in the Netz edition last year. Works are now coming from Berlin and New York that are to be shown in the Textile and Industry Museum (tim), the festival center. Brecht guest performances with artists from Japan, Spain, Belarus and Togo, contributions by groups from Augsburg and two theater productions by the lead duo are also planned. Some short films from Kirksville, Beijing, Tel Aviv, New Delhi and Herat have been moved online. There are also readings and concerts. It seems to be getting lively again in Augsburg.
