The starting position is not good for Alexander Zverev. In Turin he is dependent on the support of his arch-rival. Only if he wins will the dream of the semi-final live on.

For Alexander Zverev has to wait today. Waiting to see whether his last group game at the ATP Finals in Turin against Andrej Rublev, who has already been eliminated, has any meaning at all.

Only if Daniil Medvedev from Russia, who has already qualified for the semi-finals, wins against Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz from Spain, will Zverev still have a chance of making it to the semi-finals in the evening game.

“I’m in an unfavorable situation now. You never want that, you always want to have everything in your own hands,” said Zverev. But because he lost to his long-term rival Medvedev in two sets after his opening win against Alcaraz, he is dependent on his support.

Zverev has not yet given up hope. “Daniil is playing very well, he has a very good chance of winning against Carlos,” said Zverev. “But I also have to be focused and ready myself to beat Andrei.” He has lost all three duels against the Russian so far this year.
