- This first major ceasefire since the start of the invasion of the country ten months ago was to come into effect today, at noon Moscow time (10 a.m. Paris time), and run until Saturday evening (10 p.m. Paris time).
- Despite the entry into force of a unilateral truce announced by Moscow, artillery fire continued Friday on both sides of the front in Bakhmout, in the east of the country, noted journalists from Agence France-Presse (AFP). - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko visits Russian troops stationed at a military base in Belarus, the Belarusian Defense Ministry announced on Friday.
- Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, accused Moscow of using “Christmas as an excuse to attempt, if only temporarily, to halt the progression” Ukrainian forces in the Donbass. Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba ruled on Thursday that the ceasefire ” not [pouvait] not and don’t [devait] not be taken seriously”.
- Germany announced on Friday the delivery of some 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine before the end of the first quarter.
