Art prize of the city of Munich for Cozy Pièro – Munich

The artist Cozy Pièro receives this year’s Art Prize of the City of Munich. Pièro, born in Cologne in 1937, has lived and worked in Munich since the 1960s. Her work includes drawings, paintings, sculptures and installations as well as videos and performances. Her installation in the Brudermühlstraße subway station is well known in public space. Cozy Pièro was the founder of the queer bar “Bei Cosy” on Baaderstraße. In the 1980s she organized the “Werkstatt Brücke 7” studio building in Sendling, where the Minimal Club, Rabe Perplexum and many other artists had their studios. Cozy Piero is considered a central promoter of the queer and experimental art scene in Munich. The art prize is endowed with 10,000 euros and is awarded every three years for the outstanding oeuvre of artists who live in Munich or the region or have a close connection to Munich as a place of their work. So far, Rudolf Wachter, Rudi Tröger, Herbert Peters, Urs Lüthi, Bodo Buhl, Beate Passow, Olaf Metzel, Stephan Huber, Michaela Melián, Stephan Dillemuth, Eva Leitolf and most recently Barbara Gross have received awards.
