ARD series “Sexually Available”: A woman like this rarely appears on TV

The heroine in “Sexually Available” is said to have encouraged a man to take drugs and raped him with a strap-on dildo. Things are rarely clear-cut in the series.

The well-behaved lace collar can only briefly hide the fact that this woman is acting impossible. Miki meets her childhood friend Ben in a fancy restaurant; she knows practically everyone there, he knows no one. She is a trendy woman in her 40s, he is a somewhat staid lawyer who is supposed to get her out of a tricky situation: Miki is said to have encouraged a man to take drugs and raped him with a strap-on dildo. Ben is more worried about the possible trial than Miki, who first eats the bread basket empty and orders champagne and steaks over his head, even though there is nothing to celebrate. She gossips about the guests and snubs the waiter who forgot to put the vinaigrette on the artichokes: “Sorry, little mouse, it’s your first day today, isn’t it? It seems a bit like that. But it doesn’t matter, you’re super cute!”

The scene from the series “Sexually Available” shows well the tone that is set in the six episodes with the superb leading actress Laura Tonke as Miki: It is fast-paced and often outrageous. “My creative drive was to invent a woman who completely misbehaves,” says author Caroline Rosales. “Miki knows no boundaries, that’s what’s interesting about her. It’s rare to see a woman like that on television.”
