Announcement in Mar-a-Lago: Will Trump run again?

It has long been speculated that Donald Trump now wants to announce his candidacy for the presidency. His candidacy could exacerbate the Republican power struggle.

Palm Beach, Fla. A narrow, two-lane road leads over a bridge onto an equally narrow piece of land on the east coast. Even from the bridge you can see Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump’s well-known club and residence with its meticulously trimmed lawns, palm trees and a mix of Mediterranean and Hispanic architecture. Everything is painted brown and sand colors.

A high wall surrounds the site. Like the wall on the border with Mexico that Trump planned to build during his presidency, it looks more like a construction site than a finished structure. The paint is peeling off, holes and cracks are poorly repaired with gray plaster.

Will Trump run again?

From the outside, there is little that reminds you of glitz, ostentation and grand gestures. But that’s exactly what’s supposed to happen in Trump’s club today. “I’m making a very big announcement Tuesday, November 15, in Palm Beach, Florida,” Trump said a day before the midterm elections in Dayton, Ohio, last week. Hopefully November 15 will be the most important day in US history, he wrote on his social media platform True Social.

He did not reveal what he wanted to announce “big”. But long before his Dayton, Ohio appearance, there was regular speculation that Trump would soon be tossing his hat for the 2024 presidential election. Always fueled the most by himself.

Ex-President faces competition from Ron DeSantis

Jason Miller, an adviser and close confidant of the ex-president, is absolutely certain that it will be the candidacy. During a phone call, Trump told him that he would definitely run, that was out of the question, Miller explained on the radio show of former Trump chief strategist Stephen Bannon.

However, whether the former US President will actually be the Republican candidate for 2024 is in the hands of the Republican party. Trump would first have to win the internal party election campaign – the so-called primaries. After the disappointing midterm election results for Republicans, that’s by no means certain. And with the re-elected Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, Trump has serious competition from his own ranks.

Trumpists are waiting in front of the club

For the Trumpists in Mar-a-Lago, it’s all “fake news.” A handful have come to the club with their pickup trucks, flags, Trump hats and banners. Like Ti and his wife Amy from San Diego, California, a five and a half hour flight away.

Vietnam immigrant Ti is a Trump supporter through and through. He says the 2020 election was stolen – just like the midterm elections. There is a conspiracy by the political establishment in Washington: “They have connections with other global lobby groups. They don’t want this country to become strong again.”

Laws and regulations need to be restored in the US, say Ti and Amy. Only Donald Trump can restore both. She cannot imagine that he will not become US President again in 2024.
