In the seventh episode of star-Podcasts “ÜberMerkel – Vertraute recount” Roll now takes the listeners into three decades of federal politics by and with Angela Merkel. Among other things, the award-winning journalist reports on the changes in the former chancellor: “The last time I saw Angela Merkel, she struck me as an armored turtle. But sometimes her eyes flash like they used to. Like a turtle suddenly coming out That’s what the power and the responsibility and the lack of time and the lack of sleep does to people.”

“About Merkel – telling stories”

Angela Merkel was Chancellor for 16 years. The first. At the end of 2021 she resigned her post, now there is a man in office. What is left of her? What was she like, the chancellor? How is she as a boss, as a friend, as a feminist? For years, the story of Angela Merkel was mostly told by men. stern– Editor-in-chief Anna-Beeke Gretemeier meets for the podcast “ÜberMerkel – Vertraute recounting” with companions of the former Chancellor – yes, only with women. The conversations show new perspectives and thus draw a very personal audio portrait.

“ÜberMerkel – Familiar stories” appears weekly on Tuesdays at AudioNow, Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music and everywhere there are podcasts. You can also find all episodes here.

Roll also recalls the resistance against which Merkel had to assert herself in her career: from the “Andean Pact”, which wanted to shape the CDU after the end of the Kohl era, to the “Wolfratshauser Breakfast”, where she submitted her candidacy for chancellor in the early 2000s left to the then CSU boss Edmund Stoiber. Roll also provides a look behind the scenes: on which occasions has Angela Merkel imitated heads of government? What was it like when she invited you to dinner in the Chancellery? And why was Angela Merkel a “squatter” in the 80s?
