The missing Alexandra Föderl-Schmid was found under an Inn bridge in Austria. The police had been looking for the deputy editor-in-chief of the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” since Thursday.

She was missing for around 24 hours, but now there is great relief. The “Süddeutsche Zeitung” (SZ) journalist Alexandra Föderl-Schmid has been found alive. The Upper Austria State Police Directorate confirmed on Friday afternoon star-Information that the person missing since Thursday was discovered under a bridge over the Inn in Braunau, Austria. She was taken to a hospital, a spokesman said. The police did not provide any information about the circumstances of their discovery or their state of health.

Emergency services had been looking for Alexandra Föderl-Schmid

Fire and police forces searched the Inn in the border region of Germany and Austria with several boats on Thursday without success for the deputy SZ editor-in-chief. The 53-year-old had previously been reported missing.

Föderl-Schmid recently temporarily withdrew from the day-to-day business of the SZ after allegations of possible plagiarism fragments in her doctoral thesis were made. In addition, she is said to have copied articles from other authors in several cases for the SZ. The University of Salzburg and their employer wanted to investigate the allegations. Föderl-Schmid has been deputy editor-in-chief of the SZ since 2020.
