It doesn’t take long for Martin Zeil to start raving: about Bavarian hometown evenings in Moscow, conciliatory meetings in Prague, unique encounters in Jerusalem. If you ask the former FDP economics minister about his trips abroad, he blossoms. “I felt like Bavaria’s foreign minister back then,” says Zeil and laughs. He liked to travel. “Bavaria lives from exports, so you have to nurture and maintain relationships abroad.”
