After the cup collapse in Sinsheim: Schalke separates from coach Kramer

Status: 10/19/2022 10:55 a.m

Frank Kramer has been released as a coach at Bundesliga side Schalke 04.

The club from the Ruhr area announced this decision after the 1:5 defeat against TSG Hoffenheim on Wednesday morning (October 19th, 2022) in the DFB Cup. It was the heaviest cup defeat in 17 years. Under Kramer, the promoted team had only won one of their ten league games so far and conceded the most in the entire league with 24 goals.

Kramer was also fired in Bielefeld

The 50-year-old Kramer was only signed at the beginning of the season and was supposed to lead promoted Schalke 04 to stay up in the league. Those responsible in Gelsenkirchen apparently had doubts about the success of this project. Immediately after the end of the cup, sports director Rouven Schröder said on Sky: “We will stay here to analyze and get everything straight – the outcome is open.”

Kramer had previously worked at Arminia Bielefeld, among others. He initially managed to stay up with Arminia, but was also released early after almost a year when the club was threatened with relegation from the German elite class in April 2022.
