In Munich, representatives of Western governments pledge their support to Ukraine. President Zelenskyj expects longer-range missiles – after British Prime Minister Sunak made the appropriate statement at the security conference.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expects further military aid for Ukraine in its defensive struggle against Russia from the Munich Security Conference.
In his daily video address, Zelenskyy said: “There are important statements from world leaders in support of our state – and there are signals to strengthen weapons for our defense”. This applies in particular to missiles with a longer range.
Sunak with delivery promise
Zelenskyy’s comments were primarily a reaction to a promise made by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Sunak had previously promised further arms aid for Ukraine in Munich. He had said: “Now is the moment to intensify our military support”.
Together we must help Ukraine protect its cities from Russian bombs and Iranian drones.
Therefore, Britain will be the first country to provide Ukraine with longer-range weapons. However, Sunak did not give any details.
According to Zelensky, the Munich declarations also made it clear that the war of aggression against Ukraine ordered by Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin could only end in a defeat for the aggressor. Concrete agreements have also been reached with partners that Russia will be held accountable for the invasion.
Almost all Ukrainian regions on the power grid
In his speech, Zelenskyj also addressed the latest Russian rocket attacks. These would only have led to a short-term failure of the power grid. Almost all regions of Ukraine are currently back on the grid, Zelenskyj emphasized. This is a win for Kiev, as Russian missile attacks since October have been aimed at destroying Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
