After attack on Bayreuth city council: suspect determined

Probably no connection with political mandate

When asked by Bayerischer Rundfunk, the police initially only confirmed an attack on a local politician and city councillor. There was an argument to the “disadvantage of the city council member,” according to the police. According to initial findings, the attack was not carried out in connection with Tasdelen’s political mandate.

Investigators suspect xenophobic attack

As the police announced early on Saturday morning, the investigators are assuming an “attack motivated by xenophobia”. According to the report, the perpetrator was accompanied by a woman who is said to have insulted the 49-year-old city councilor in an xenophobic manner. Police said the woman was identified at the scene. It is a 39-year-old.

Solidarity on social media

In the evening, many people, including politicians, declared their solidarity with Tasdelen on social networks. Among other things, Federal Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir (Greens) wished him “get well soon”. He hopes that the perpetrator or perpetrators will be caught and punished quickly.

The Vice President of the Bavarian State Parliament, Markus Rinderspacher (SPD), also shows solidarity. “I am shocked by this racist attack and my thoughts are with you!”. Bavaria’s SPD head Florian von Brunn tweeted: “We as BayernSPD are by your side and are fighting with all our strength and determination against racism and right-wing violence!”

SPD co-chair Saskia Esken tweeted: “Dear Halil, it hurts me what was done to you! I hope the broken nose heals well. But that too #Hatewho broke your nose, who formed such shameful words #Scar. Rest assured: we stand by your side, we stand against you #Racism!”
