Afraid of Russia? stern editor talks to residents of Bornholm

Watch the video: Fear of Putin – stern editor on the situation on the formerly Soviet-occupied island of Bornholm

The Danish island of Bornholm is geopolitically and strategically interesting for West and East. About 300 away is Kaliningrad, where Russian missiles are stationed.
Stern reporter Rune Weichert reports from the popular holiday island of Bornholm, in the middle of the Baltic Sea and within reach of the Russian fleet. In conversations with residents and Danish vacationers, he asks whether they are afraid of a Russian attack.
Benny, resident of Bornholm: “I don’t think they dare. I think they know that a major attack on NATO could go wrong for them.”
Gitte, tourist from Denmark: “I don’t trust Russia or Putin at all.” On the question of whether Russia could attack Bornholm): “No, I don’t think so. Maybe that’s naive to think, but I don’t think so.”
Bornholm is geopolitically and strategically interesting because it is located in the middle of the Baltic Sea, right between Sweden and Poland. So whoever controls the island can also control the entire Baltic Sea.
Sophie: “Now there has been a major expansion of NATO. I think that will greatly strengthen our defense cooperation. So I’m not nervous at all, on the contrary, I’m optimistic about it.”
Linna & Malu: “I don’t think I’m so afraid of Russia. But I also think that if we are attacked, then NATO will stand by us. So I don’t think they will do that.” – “But you still think about it.”
The atmosphere is divided into two camps. Some say no, Russia would not attack a NATO country like Denmark and thus Bornholm. Even more: With the NATO expansion Sweden + Finland you will be even stronger in the Baltic Sea region. Others are much more nervous and say: Russia is unpredictable.
