A white march organized in tribute to Rayan, found dead in the Deûle

A white march to ward off oblivion. On Thursday August 3, Rayan’s body was found in the Deûle canal, in Lille, in the North, not far from the zoo and Vauban park. The 20-year-old young man had not given any sign of life since Monday July 31, after an evening spent with work colleagues. Since then, his father, Alain Carduner, has been moving heaven and earth to find out what happened.

He decided to organize a white march in Lille, “in memory of Rayan and the other drowned people of the Deûle”, he explains. The procession must leave, at 2 p.m., from 139 rue d’Iéna, where his son lived, to cross the city to the canal. “We are going to pass in front of the nightclub and the bar where he went the night he disappeared,” specifies Alain Carduner. This Tuesday, the prefecture gave authorization to pay tribute to the deceased.

Investigation still open

An investigation is still open. About three weeks after Rayan’s death, a second body was discovered in almost the same place. In February 2011, justice also opened an investigation after the drowning death of three people in the Deûle. Two other men were found drowned during the year, bringing the number of victims to five.

The following year, in December 2012, two young women whose bodies were found in the Deûle, two weeks apart. Ten years later, a judicial investigation to determine the causes of Ingrid Marchal’s death is still open.
