Tuesday, September 13, 2022, a teacher from Malherbe high school at Caen (Calvados) was attacked with knives. According to several testimonies collected on the spot, “the attack would have happened in a second class,” in front of the eyes of the other students.

In an email addressed to the parents of students, which we were able to consult, the school management specifies that the attack took place “at the 11am break”.

Attacker arrested

The perpetrator, a minor, was arrested by the police at the end of the morning in front of the gate of the establishment, before being placed in police custody. This is a sophomore. Only one stab wound was given. It would have been taken to the throat.
The student in question was not previously known to the police. The alcohol test he underwent was negative.
“The vital prognosis of the teacher is not engaged”, soberly adds the public prosecutor of Caen, Amélie Cladière. Aged about fifty, she was transported to Caen University Hospital.
In front of the establishment, a security perimeter has been established. Tape has been installed at the entrance. Fifteen police officers are stationed there. No one else was injured.

Classes continue

Several students agreed to testify: “We can stay inside the school. Life goes on. There are police and the teachers are stressed. Normal given what just happened. We have seen second-grade students who are not well, in tears. It’s shocking that a high school student would do that. Let him even have the idea”, explain Thomas, Zadig and Temi.
A psychological unit has been set up for “students and staff”, underlines the management of the establishment, in the email sent to parents.

The entire educational community condemns this absolutely unspeakable act and gives its full support to the teacher, and to all the witnesses of this aggression.

The management of Malherbe high school

The school management is looking for students who would have attended the scene, in order to accompany them. The facility was not evacuated.
Around 12:30 p.m., a policeman invited the students who had lessons to return to the establishment. The mayor of Caen, Joël Bruneau, went there.
