A month of rain fell in one day, a train is derailed by a landslide

A real deluge. On Sunday, around 75 mm of precipitation fell in the Lyon region. That’s the equivalent of a month of rain. The old record dated April 22, 1948 with 56 mm. The A47 motorway, which connects Lyon to Saint-Etienne, had to be cut off to traffic in the afternoon due to flooding on the road near Givors.

Two people, among the 200 travelers, were slightly injured. Including “a pregnant woman”, specifies the SNCF. All passengers were evacuated to be repatriated in the evening to Lyon aboard a “special train”. The SNCF announced that traffic on this axis would not resume before Wednesday: “A joint assessment with the competent road services is planned to analyze the causes of this slope slide, the railway line being located below a road” .
