Monday, up to 11,500 euros in fines in total were required at the trial of a hunting crew tried in Senlis, in the Oise. The hunters were tried for “endangering the lives of others” after chasing a deer to Chantilly station.
On January 12, 2021, a deer, chased by dogs and the crew of the “Rally of the Three Forests”, took refuge on the tracks of Chantilly station. Traffic was then interrupted for two hours and users evacuated from the SNCF station.
The blame placed on the deer by the hunters
After almost two hours of pursuit, the piqueux (the one leading the dogs) was about to kill the animal, exhausted. But, with renewed vigor, the deer had bounded back towards the town, the dogs in pursuit. HE had first taken refuge near a high school, then in the station. Gendarmes, firefighters and veterinarians finally had to get the deer out of the way after having anesthetized it.
The hunting association, its representative and an employee (the piqueux), were prosecuted for “endangering the lives of others”, “obstructing the movement of a train” and “introducing an animal into a part of the railway line. Facing them, the SPA and the SNCF.
“Things happened with respect for hunting,” said the former president of the association, Hervé Tétard, present that day. “And then, it was the deer who decided to leave for the station. Since this incident, we have been more careful, ”recognized the prickly.
“The animal should have been pardoned”
“A deer that weighs between 200 to 250 kg and runs at 80 km/h was hunted near a high school. But the hunting action continued. The animal should have been pardoned. A series of breaches has led to the endangerment of the lives of others, ”denounced the prosecutor Michel Mazars.
The public prosecutor requested a total of 1,500 euros suspended fine for the piqueux and 1,500 euros for the ex-president. Regarding the association, a total fine of 11,500 euros was requested. The decision is due June 26.
