A clandestine slaughterhouse discovered by the gendarmes

It is unknown how the information arrived at the gendarmes’ office. Alerted to illegal practices carried out on a farm in La Feuillie, east of Rouen, the Seine-Maritime gendarmes went to the site and discovered an illegal slaughterhouse. According to the Actu.fr website, around fifty pigs which were present were seized and taken away by specialized teams.

If Norman breeding seemed in order, it was the slaughter of animals without authorization that posed a problem. According to our colleagues, the animals were subjected to electrical stunning before being killed and then cut up “in inappropriate sanitary conditions”. The farm manager will soon be interviewed by investigators.

In France, the slaughter of animals for human consumption must be carried out in an approved slaughterhouse, “where each carcass is subject to a health inspection followed by official stamping”, recalls the State.
