88 Bavarian municipalities participate in the Earth Hour – Bavaria

At least 88 Bavarian towns and communities turn off their lights on March 25 for “Earth Hour”. From Lower Franconia to Upper Bavaria, numerous town halls, sights and other public facilities would be in the dark from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., the environmental protection organization WWF announced on Friday. These include buildings such as Neuschwanstein Castle, the Augsburg State Theater and the Freising Water Tower.

“The climate crisis does not take a break in the face of other crises,” says Viviane Raddatz, head of climate protection and energy policy at WWF Germany. Climate change is progressing incessantly, the fossil fuel crisis requires quick answers. The current climate protection policy of the traffic light government is “not an adequate reaction to this colossal challenge”.

This year is the 17th time that the WWF is calling for Earth Hour worldwide. According to the organizers, 482 municipalities in Germany have so far confirmed their participation, in 2022 there were 663. The WWF is calling on other cities and companies to register for the Earth Hour.
