Due to heavy snowfall, the Austrian Brenner motorway is closed on Friday to the south between Innsbruck and the Brenner Pass has been closed (external link). The motorway operator Asfinag has not yet announced how long the important traffic route from Germany to Italy will remain closed.

Almost 40 centimeters of fresh snow and more than 20 snow clearing vehicles

According to Asfinag, around 40 centimeters of snow fell within a short period of time on Friday. Despite the ban on driving and overtaking, trucks used several lanes of the highway and then got stuck in the snow. It was said that the trucks blocked snow removal vehicles and other cars.
