Tim Walter has already missed promotion to the Bundesliga twice with Hamburger SV. This season, too, the big goal is in danger again. But Walter is allowed to continue for now.

Proof of trust before Christmas: Hamburger SV is leaving with the coach who has come under heavy criticism Tim Walter in the second half of the season. The second division soccer team announced this following an analysis of the first half of the season by sports director Jonas Boldt and sports director Claus Costa with the coaching team.

“This analysis process was valuable for all of us. And it is very good that we initiated it immediately after the fresh impressions of the first half of the season, without letting ourselves be guided by emotions,” said Boldt.

Make everyday processes even more “performance-enhancing”.

The sporting leadership announced, among other things, that they wanted to make everyday routines even more “performance-enhancing” from the start of training in the new year. What exactly was meant by this remained unclear at first.

Hamburg had started the season well, but had increasing problems with a lack of stability, a tendency to make mistakes in defense and a noticeably weak away form. The Hamburg team had seven wins in eight games at the Volksparkstadion, but only picked up ten points away from home. As a result, HSV slipped to third place in the table. After 17 match days, Hamburg are four points away from Holstein Kiel in first place.

Walter came to Hamburg in the summer of 2021 and is the HSV coach with the longest tenure in this millennium. The 48-year-old failed twice in promotion relegation with the Hanseatic League. This season, too, the declared goal is to return to the Bundesliga.
