Instead of easing, there will be tightening of the corona measures this autumn – at least in Hesse. There, the 2G rule should also be implemented in retail in the future. New rules also apply in hospitals, old people’s and nursing homes.

The Hessian Prime Minister Volker Bouffier (CDU) has announced after consultations with the Corona cabinet that the existing 2G option will be extended to the entire retail sector. The establishments, which also include supermarkets and discounters, will in future be able to decide for themselves whether they will only receive vaccinated and Genesis products in their shops and thus forego the obligation to keep a mask and wear a mask.

With the 2G option for the retail trade, “requests from the industry” would be met, according to one Press release from the Hessian State Chancellery. “We are assuming that this option will only be used on a daily basis and that businesses for everyday needs will not make use of it,” said Prime Minister Bouffier.

Compulsory testing for hospital staff

New rules also apply in hospitals and old people’s and nursing homes. From now on, unvaccinated hospital staff will have to be tested twice a week. In old people’s and nursing homes, there should no longer be an automatic entry ban for the entire facility in the event of a single infection, but rather individually required protective measures should be used. This is stated in the Coronavirus Protection Ordinance applicable in Hesse.

At the end of the free test options yesterday, Bouffier asks citizens to use vaccination offers and “not to be careless”. “We have come through the autumn well so far, as the incidence of hospitalization and intensive care bed occupancy with COVID-19 patients show,” said the Hessian head of government.
