Danced, celebrated, laughed – and also collected money for a good cause: 12,000 people came to Volksdorfer Markt on Saturday to experience the NDR Festival together. Before the musical star guests Milow and Londonbeat gave their concerts, they first had to solve a puzzle.
The singer-songwriter Milow is a convincing live entertainer who always has the audience in his grip. Right at the beginning he admits: “I’ve never been to Volksdorf.” But: “I will never forget Volksdorf, I have the feeling,” he assures the audience. And he even speaks German very well: “We enjoy, enjoy, enjoy”, he. Milow wrote the song “Nice To Meet You” for his two children, aged two and seven. “I wanted to give them good advice. But in the end I found out: I learn at least as much from my children as they learn from me,” he says. His hit “You And Me” is eagerly awaited.
Milow: “Keep going to concerts”
“Let me see your hands,” Milow calls out to the crowd before starting it off with his band. After a forced break due to the corona pandemic, he is grateful to be able to go on tour again. “Thank you for supporting live music – keep going to concerts,” Milow tells viewers before he kicks off “Howling At The Moon.”
Londonbeat: Up close and personal with the audience
The British band Londonbeat kicked things off on the stage at Volksdorfer Markt. The first hit: of course “I’ve Been Thinking About You” – it was a number one hit in no less than 27 countries. But of course “Return of the Mac”, “All Eyes On You” and “You Bring On The Sun” shouldn’t be missing either. With “Better Love” singer Jimmy Helms leaves the stage and gets in touch with the audience, who celebrate him for it. Finally, Londonbeat play a remix of “Thinking About You” and a very special a cappella version of Ben E. King’s classic “Stand By Me”.
Challenge against the NDR
In the run-up, NDR 90.3 and the Hamburg Journal invited people to a scavenger hunt in five different districts of Hamburg: in Wilstorf, Neuenfelde, Bergdorf, Eidelstedt and Volksdorf there were several puzzle pieces hidden that had to be found by local people. These parts were finally put together on site in Volksdorf: live in the Hamburg Journal and in the program of NDR 90.3. In doing so, they not only won their challenge, but also supported a good cause at the same time: Due to the task solved, the “Erlenbusch” support group received a donation of 1,000 euros from the NDR Festival Partner Lotto.
