11-year-old child arrested after showing gun in front of school

That day, the alert was triggered and the students of the Jean-Monier school, in Châteauneuf-Grasse (Alpes-Maritimes), remained confined. On October 10, an 11-year-old child from outside the establishment came to the courtyard gate to show off a weapon and uttered threats against a schoolboy, reported Nice morning. The boy was even arrested. The case, which had moved the residents and the mayor of this small town, Emmanuel Delmotte, describing the facts as “alarming”, has just been closed without further action by the Grasse public prosecutor’s office, we learned 20 minutes.

A decision taken “taking into account the personality of the accused”, his age but also the “slight intellectual deficiency” highlighted during a psychiatric assessment, specified the prosecution, which retained the “non-discernment of the minor”.

A “social assessment of the family” requested

According to the explanations provided by the child himself, he appeared in front of his little sister’s school, where he himself had been educated, on the grounds that she was “a victim of violence on the part of from another student. He declared that he wanted to “talk” with the latter “to ask him to stop” and that the alarm gun he had brought was, for him, “a toy”.

“The psychiatric expertise revealed a slight intellectual deficiency of the accused, having probably slightly affected his ability to judge and his discernment,” notes the prosecution. A “social assessment of the family” was requested.
