zkSync Launches ZK Stack for Building ‘Hyperchains’

zkSync will launch the ZK Stack by the end of the year, using recursive scaling and “hyperchains” to build an ecosystem of interoperable protocols and sovereign chains.

Hyperchains will operate as a new layer on top of existing Layer 2 protocols, enabling almost instant transfer of liquidity and flash loans between protocols in the system. This cannot be done between L1 blockchains.

This has some similarities to the L2 superchain network revealed by Optimism.

Alex Gluchowski, co-founder and CEO of zkSync, said the system will eliminate the need for insecure token bridges. which is a vulnerability that has been hacked a lot.

“We now have a ZK Stack for people to start building. And we have the first product that we’re working together to build. And this will be published on the test network by the end of the year,” he said.

Gluchowski estimates that more than 95% of DApps will still be ported directly to L2, but Hyperchains will likely be used in projects with specific requirements for privacy, speed, and data availability, including gaming, social. Networks, low-latency exchanges and banks are some of the potential users.

After a quiet launch, zkSync Era has grown exponentially, reaching nearly total TVL. 620 million US dollars and currently processes 20.8 million transactions per month. It has a speed of 8 transactions per second, up to 12 TPS.

Gluchowski compared the ZK Stack to Internet frameworks. which makes it possible to expand the network without limits “You can always add more servers, more wires, more connections, and go from 1,000 servers to 1 million servers to 1 billion servers,” he said. “Today’s Blockchains don’t have this feature.”

The ZK Stack uses recursive scaling, where transactions are batched into a ZK proof, and those ZK proof stacks are then batched into a single stack for greater compression. This means that the system can theoretically be scaled according to any need.

The ZK Stack could theoretically connect to other ZK roll-ups, such as Polygon’s zkEVM, ConsenSys’ Linea or StarkNet, but Gluchowski argues that this is unlikely, so the ZK Stack is unlikely to solve interoperability issues yet. with ZK rollups coming soon
