Ukrainian civilians die again in Russian attacks. From President Zelensky’s perspective, fighting back is not just a question of survival for Ukraine. An overview of the night’s events.
The Ukrainian one
“No state in Europe could have withstood such pressure and evil alone,” said Zelensky, referring to further Russian attacks in recent days. “And that’s why it’s important that we all stand together now – everyone who values life and who doesn’t want this terror to spread to other nations.”
Zelenskyj with emphatic words: “Putin only wants war and death”
All leading politicians and international organizations must respond to the actions of Russia and the Kremlin leader
Zelensky further said: “That is why it is a matter of survival – not just for Ukraine – that the world responds and strikes back at Russian evil.” The war must become hopeless for Russia. “Russian evil should not be emboldened by weak decisions, delivery delays or indecision.”
Death toll in Odessa continues to rise
After the serious Russian drone attack on Saturday night, the number of deaths in the southern Ukrainian city of Odessa rose to twelve. On Sunday, the bodies of two children, a ten-year-old boy and his eight-year-old sister, were recovered from the rubble, the governor of the Odessa region, Oleh Kiper, said on Telegram on Sunday.
A few hours earlier, according to Kiper, the bodies of a woman and a baby had been recovered from the rubble. The child was not even a year old. This brings the number of children killed in this attack in Odessa to five. The Russian drone crashed into a nine-story residential building in the port city on the Black Sea.
16 injured in Russian attack on city in eastern Ukraine
According to initial reports, at least 16 people were injured in a Russian attack on the city of Kurakhove in southeastern Ukraine on Sunday afternoon. The guided aircraft bomb damaged several houses in the town in the Donetsk region, the Ukrainian Unian agency reported.
The condition of two of the injured was described as critical. Russia has been waging a war of aggression against Ukraine for two years. Residential areas repeatedly come under indiscriminate fire from Russian artillery or fighter jets.
Zelensky: Russia loses seven fighter jets in one week
According to Zelensky, Ukrainian air defenses shot down seven Russian fighter jets last week. According to the General Staff in Kiev, the Russian Air Force has lost 348 aircraft and 325 helicopters since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine. The information could not be independently verified. Moscow itself does not provide any information about its own losses.
Heavy fighting continues on Ukrainian sectors of the front
Russian and Ukrainian troops once again engaged in heavy fighting on various sectors of the front in the east and south of Ukraine. The General Staff in Kiev announced in its situation report in the evening that 68 battles were registered on Sunday. Especially in the east, Russian units tried several times to advance towards Kupyansk and Limansk. The attacks were repelled, it said. (dpa/tas)
