Russian attacks on Odessa continue. Numerous rockets were fired at the Ukrainian port city during the night. There are said to have been two deaths. President Zelenskyy accused Russia of terrorism against the people of Odessa.
According to Ukrainian sources, at least two people were killed and more than 20 others injured, including four children, in another night Russian attack on the Ukrainian Black Sea port of Odessa. According to information from Kiev, the attacks “destroyed” the historically important Transfiguration Cathedral and damaged several residential buildings.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Twitter, among other things, that “retaliation against the Russian terrorists” would be taken for their actions in Odessa. The old town of the Ukrainian port city of Odessa is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
19 rockets fired at Odessa
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia fired a total of 19 rockets of different types at Odessa on Sunday night. These include Onik and Kalibr cruise missiles fired from the sea and Iskander ballistic missiles. The air defense was able to intercept nine of the missiles.
The Southern Command of the Ukrainian Army said that unintercepted shells caused damage to the infrastructure of the port of Odessa and at least “six residential buildings, including apartment buildings”. In one of them, residents were temporarily trapped in the rubble of their apartments. In addition, there were power outages.

The chief of staff of the presidential office, Andriy Yermak, called for more missile defense systems and tactical missiles for his country in view of the renewed Russian shelling. The Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, reiterated this demand. “We need more anti-aircraft defense,” Makeiev wrote on Twitter, referring to the attacks on Odessa, declaring: “Pure evil has a name – Russia.”
Odessa has been attacked daily since Russia canceled the agreement to export Ukrainian grain across the Black Sea last Monday. From there, many of the wheat exports were made. According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture, 60,000 tons of grain were destroyed in Odessa and nearby Chornomorsk.
Shelling in eastern and northeastern Ukraine
Meanwhile, more Russian attacks have killed and injured several people. In the city of Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region in the east of the country, a resident was killed by Russian shelling on Saturday, the local prosecutor said on Telegram.
Another person was killed and one injured in the shelling of Dvorichna in the Kupyansk area, it said. According to the military administration of the Sumy region in the north-east of the country, several towns were shelled with artillery or helicopters on Saturday. According to preliminary findings, at least one person was killed and four others injured in the town of Krasnopil, it said.
Ukrainian attacks repelled by Russian forces
