The fighting at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant has been going on for days – there is repeated shelling. Pumps and lines were damaged, a reactor block was shut down to be on the safe side. The world is on alert. Now Russia has proposed a ceasefire, reports the Russian news agency Ria Novosti.

The ceasefire should therefore apply to the entire area surrounding the nuclear power plant. Russian occupation authority representative Rogov said the international mediators should not be talking about demilitarizing armed forces, but about the conditions under which the shelling could stop. So far, there has been no comment from the Ukrainian side.

Fighting in southern and eastern Ukraine

For days, both sides have held each other responsible for the shelling in the vicinity of the nuclear power plant in the city of Enerhodar.
Meanwhile, fighting continues in southern and eastern Ukraine. On Ukrainian television, people are reporting rocket attacks on Mykolaiv.

The war has now been going on for almost half a year. The Ukrainian President Selenskyj is apparently preparing for many more months. In his nightly video speech, he called for the state of war to be extended and for the army to be mobilized.

Zelenskyy stated that the parliament should soon decide on the extension and general mobilization. “Ukraine has always wanted peace and still wants it,” said the Ukrainian president. At various meetings, Ukraine has repeatedly suggested to Russia that it end the war and end the occupation, Zelensky said: “But so far, Russia has relied on terror.”

The warring parties have not negotiated a ceasefire for months. Experts see a renewed general mobilization as a sign that the war is expected to be significantly extended beyond the winter.
