War is the continuation of politics by other means. Many people quote this mantra, but too few give it the attention it deserves – especially during a war. Given the massacre carried out by Hamas in Israel and the increasing number of civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip, the internal logic of the war is obscured by the immense human suffering it causes. Given the mountains of corpses, the question arises: Who will win this war? It won’t be the side that kills more people, not the side that destroys more houses. And it won’t be the side that receives more international support – but the one that achieves its political goals.
