Yoga is one of the trend sports: in Germany alone, 16 percent of the population had their first contact with Indian teaching – and the trend is rising.

According to a recent opinion poll Regarding the frequency of yoga in leisure time between 2016 and 2019, an average of 2.81 million people in the German-speaking population (aged 14 and over) regularly practice the sport. Statistics also show that the number of those who only do yoga now and then increases from year to year. But why is that actually? After all, this sport is primarily about relaxing – which inevitably leads to the fact that many people with reservations about the Indian philosophy “only” associate yoga with sitting around and meditating. Above all, the exercises help you feel fitter – and that can be not only mentally but also physically demanding. It is therefore all the more important that you wear comfortable clothing when practicing yoga.

Yoga clothing: what to look out for when buying

First things first: Of course, you can also do your exercises in normal sportswear, even without a yoga label. But why do you actually need a special yoga outfit when the normal baggy lock is sufficient? Quite simply: The materials are often too thin or thick, slippery or poorly processed – this inevitably leads to some exercises (or hot yoga) that you sweat a lot or your clothes start to pinch. So before you have to straighten your outfit all the time, you should pay attention to the following points:

  1. Most Yoga pants are leggings, because they are tight (but not too tight) on the body and still offer the wearer sufficient legroom. When buying, make sure that the trousers fit well – in other words, they must not slip and should not cut into the skin. In addition, the material should be breathable and absorb sweat. Alternatively, you can also use a wide Yoga pants made of (organic) cotton, but it is much more expensive to buy, albeit more durable and of course much more sustainable.
  2. It continues with the right one Yoga shirt. Here, too, there is a large selection of classic t-shirts, Tops, Longsleeves, crop tops or Sports bras etc. Here you should choose a variant in which you personally feel most comfortable. However, make sure you also use breathable materials that are comfortable and reasonably non-slip – since you also do a lot of overhead exercises in yoga. Depending on which type of yoga you want to pursue, there are different matching shirts. Because especially when doing hot yoga, you shouldn’t wear long sleeves or thick materials.
  3. Last but not least, there are also special ones Yoga socks: Usually most of the exercises are done barefoot so that you have a better grip on the mat. But since it can quickly get cold on the feet, especially in winter, it makes sense to Yoga socks to wear. In contrast to normal socks, they are not only breathable, but also non-slip. This is ensured by small silicone nubs on the sole and thin rubber bands that give you the necessary support in the socks.

The right accessories for the yoga outfit

The most important accessory in yoga is of course that mat. There are thin and thick models, short and long. For this reason, you should think carefully about which factors are particularly important to you before you buy. A big one Yoga mat naturally cushions your body better, but a thin one is better suited for balance exercises.

Since most yoga mats do not absorb sweat, many followers insert them hand towel thereon. When buying, make sure to choose a model that is non-slip on one side and dries quickly on the other. This gives you a better grip on the mat if you move on it a lot or if you sweat a lot.

For yoga beginners, getting one is Yoga blocks recommendable. It is used when supporting or laying down, but can also be used as a seat or additional weight. Some models are made of natural materials such as cork, others made of rigid foam. Here you can choose between different sizes or you can buy a set right away.

If both variants are too hard for you, but you still need a support for yoga, you can also choose one pillow evade. The special ones Yoga pillow are filled with spelled, among other things, and can therefore be adjusted to the desired seat height by removing some spelled. The cover is made of cotton and can therefore be washed if you sweat a lot during yoga.
