Yellow vigilance for floods maintained after the floods

The sun returned, this Monday, on Brittany. After being showered for several days by torrential rains, the peninsula should be safe from further flooding. While Morbihan and Finistère had been placed on orange alert by Météo-France, the entire region is now on yellow alert, Loire-Atlantique included. The weather forecast being favourable, all the departments concerned should see the alert lifted on Monday evening.

This weekend, some rivers burst their banks due to intense rainfall. This was particularly the case in Quimperlé, in southern Finistère, where the overflow of the Laïta caused flooding. “We have water: for the first time since 2014, the Laïta came out of its bed by going beyond the 3.80 m protection of the anti-flood barriers. But this is not a historic flood, ”said Michaël Quernez, PS mayor of this city of around 12,000 inhabitants.

A return to normal on Tuesday

The flood reached around 4.20 m during the night and photos visible on social networks show the partially flooded quays. “Our main fear is the rainfall. Our hope is that we find a more optimistic situation on Tuesday,” he said. The situation should evolve favorably due to low tide coefficients and the absence of wind, according to the same source.
