Würzburg Greens want to use corona fine for vaccination campaign – Bavaria

The Würzburg Greens parliamentary group wants to use the city’s corona-related fines for a local vaccination campaign. “If, as a result of a vaccination campaign supported by fines, even more people decide to protect themselves and their fellow human beings with a vaccination, thankfully we will achieve exactly the opposite of what the lateral thinkers irresponsibly propagate,” said parliamentary group leader Sandra Vorlová. The parliamentary group therefore submitted a corresponding application for the city council meeting this Thursday.

In Würzburg, like in many other Bavarian cities, there have been unregistered demonstrations by opponents of the Corona policy for weeks. Some participants recently violated the general decree issued at the end of December, according to which a minimum distance of 1.5 meters must be maintained and medical or FFP2 masks must be worn. In addition, meetings that have not been registered may only be held at a fixed location – i.e. the maximum of 250 participants allowed may not move through the city. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, the city has registered 80 violations at corona-related gatherings, according to information from Tuesday. “Violations of the general decree can be punished with a fine of up to 3,000 euros, which should quickly add up to a five-digit amount for a vaccination campaign,” said the co-chair of the Greens parliamentary group, Lukas Weidinger. The Greens are the strongest faction in the Würzburg city council and provide the deputy mayor Martin Heilig.
