Anyone who switched to an electric car is now a fool

But things are different with electric cars. “We are now experiencing a level of electromobility that we as suppliers have never experienced before and is causing a high level of uncertainty, especially for future investments,” says Rob van Gils, CEO of the supplier HAI Aluminum and President of the Aluminum Germany Association. What this means is that car manufacturers are now ripping off the goals that are usually set out in contracts en masse. In the best case scenario for suppliers, the contracts stipulate that a supplier is entitled to compensation if a car manufacturer purchases significantly fewer components than originally announced. Because the planned sales figures are important for the suppliers: suppliers calculate their prices and investments based on the sales planned by the car manufacturer. If significantly fewer genuine orders come in later, the calculation no longer works.
