“I am so saddened by the death of my wonderful friend Tina Turner. She really was an enormously talented artist and singer. She was inspirational, warm, funny and generous” – words from Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger on the death of the rock icon Tina Turner.
But not only the British superstar reacted to the news with sadness and dismay: Turner was “The Queen, Legend, Icon”, wrote supermodel Naomi Campbell on Turner’s Instagram page. There will never be anyone like that again. Canadian singer Bryan Adams thanked the singer for “inspiring millions of people around the world” to whom she gave her voice.
Role model for many artists
“Rejoice in paradise Queen. Legends never die,” actress Rosario Dawson wrote on Instagram. “Thank you for the inspiration you gave us all,” wrote US singer Ciara on Twitter. Heaven has now gained “an angel”. And US sports star Magic Johnson praised Turner as a “true entertainer” with “so much energy” in her performances. She is a role model for other great artists like Janet Jackson and Beyoncé
There was also a first reaction from politics in the evening: “Tina Turner was an icon, a music icon who had many great moments in her career,” said a spokeswoman for US President Joe Biden. Turner’s music will live on, her death is “a great loss for the people who loved her and of course for the music industry”.
