The ski flying world champion is being sought at the Kulm this weekend. There is still potential not only in terms of atmosphere and weather, but also in the performance of some German jumpers.

After the start of the Ski Flying World Championships, the German jumpers hope for success Karl Geiger is looking forward to a world championship atmosphere at the Kulm for the weekend. “There is still room for improvement,” said the 30-year-old about the mood after two of four rounds. “During the flights you could already hear a good atmosphere at the top and then it got loud. But there is more.”

Things could have also gone better for Geiger in terms of sport. At halftime, the Bavarian is only in 20th place. Stephan Leyhe (12th) and Pius Paschke (19th) are also far behind. Teammate Andreas Wellinger showed significantly better jumps. The 28-year-old is in fourth place at halftime and is only 0.5 points, the equivalent of a good 42 centimeters behind a medal. “It’s different. But there was also a good atmosphere. It’s not the weekend yet,” said Wellinger about the support of the 7,800 spectators.

After it was not possible to fly at all on Thursday due to the weather and heavy rain suddenly set in on Friday after the jump, at least the weather promises to improve. Sun has been announced for the final two rounds today (2 p.m./ZDF) and the team competition on Sunday. The organizers would also be happy about that. Due to the rain, numerous areas on the site are muddy and many meadows cannot be used as parking spaces around the ski jumping hill.
