Franziska Preuß started the biathlon season strongly. The woman in the yellow jersey is now looking forward to a short stopover back home. But the next race is already coming up.

The overall World Cup leader After her strong start to the biathlon season, Franziska Preuß is particularly looking forward to two things. “On my own bed and getting some sun,” the 29-year-old told the German Press Agency.

The Bavarian spent almost exactly a month, first at the training camp in Norway and then at the World Cup in Östersund, Sweden, before traveling to her adopted home of Ruhpolding via Stockholm and Munich on Monday. “It’s really been a long time. I’m really looking forward to my family,” said the 2015 relay world champion.

With two second places and a fourth place, Preuß secured the yellow jersey for the first time in her career and will also wear it at the upcoming World Cup starting Friday in Hochfilzen, Austria. “It’s really cool that I can wear the jersey there because there will definitely be a lot of German fans there,” said Preuß. The town in the Pillerseetal is not far from the German border.

But Preuß won’t be celebrating their recent successes in a big way. “First of all, the focus is on recovery and health,” said Preuß: “I’ve already looked at the weather report and am looking forward to sunshine.” In Scandinavia there has only been a few hours of daylight in the past few weeks due to the time of year.
