Without the ailing Lena Oberdorf, Marina Hegering and Sjoeke Nüsken, the German soccer players go into their first World Cup game in Australia against Morocco. National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg gave up the trio on Monday (10.30 CEST/ZDF) in Melbourne, but they are on the bench.

Frankfurt’s Sara Doorsoun plays in central defense for defender Hegering (bruised calf) from VfL Wolfsburg, while Chelsea professional Melanie Leupolz, who is the only mother in the German team, plays in defensive midfield for Oberdorf (thigh muscle injury). Nüsken was originally considered a replacement for Hegering, but suffered a stretched knee ligament a few days ago.

Full-backs in the 4-3-3 system are Svenja Huth and Felicitas Rauch. The goalkeeper is Merle Frohms (all Wolfsburg). The offensive consists of Lina Magull and Sara Däbritz in midfield and captain Alexandra Popp as striker and Klara Bühl and Jule Brand on the flanks.

In the other Group H games, Germany will face Colombia in Sydney on July 30 and South Korea in Brisbane on August 3. Before the opening match, Voss-Tecklenburg indicated that she would not take any risks with the recently injured players with a view to the rest of the tournament.
