Germany’s decathletes got off to a promising start in their World Cup competition. The German record holder Leo Neugebauer, who leads the world annual best list, sprinted over 100 meters in 10.69 seconds and was therefore close to his best time to the finish.

Niklas Kaul posted a season best in Budapest of 11.20 seconds. The fastest German was Manuel Eitel from Ulm, who was the third fastest runner overall with a time of 10.44 seconds. After the first discipline, Canadian Olympic champion Damian Warner (10.32) leads.

“I’m in good spirits that the next competitions are not just okay,” said national coach Christopher Hallmann on ZDF about Neugebauer’s start. “We’re finally looking forward to getting started.” It will be very exciting at a “highlight” of the World Cup.
