World champion Amy Pieters placed in artificial coma after accident

“When the doctors wake her up in a few days, it will then be possible to make a diagnosis on possible sequelae”, added the team, specifying that her family had joined her at the hospital in Alicante (Spain) where it was transported after the accident.

Three-time world champion on the track

This took place during team training near Calpe, a coastal town north of Alicante, and following a clash between team members.

Amy Pieters, 30, is an endurance track specialist. She was notably the three-time American racing world champion (2019, 2020, 2021) with her compatriot Kirsten Wild and European road champion in 2019.
