Again Bavarian radio learned, the railway and transport union (EVG) is planning a nationwide strike. The union ver.di had previously called for warning strikes at three German airports on Friday.
Travelers have to be prepared for train cancellations and delays again: Deutsche Bahn and other railway companies are to have a nationwide warning strike on Friday. He found out Bavarian radio from negotiating circles in collective bargaining. Accordingly, the warning strikes should last from the start of operations until 11 a.m. and affect both local and long-distance traffic.
The railway and transport union (EVG) wants to announce today how it will proceed in the collective bargaining conflict. In the short term, more pressure must be exerted on those employers “who still think they can ignore the demands of the employees,” said the invitation to the press conference.
Next week another meeting with Deutsche Bahn
The EVG demands at least 650 euros more per month for a term of one year or twelve percent more for the upper income groups. The union is currently negotiating in the second round with around 50 railway companies. On Wednesday the union meets with the company Transdev.
The next meeting with Deutsche Bahn is scheduled for next week. The company had offered five percent more and one-off payments of up to 2,500 euros. Collective bargaining affects a good 180,000 of the approximately 230,000 employees there.

Orientation towards negotiations in the public service?
Most recently, Deutsche Bahn was open to using the arbitrator’s proposal for negotiations in the public sector as a guide. This initially provides for tax and duty-free special payments of 3000 euros in several stages. From March 2024 there will then be a base amount of 200 euros and then a wage increase of 5.5 percent. If no increase of 340 euros is achieved, the relevant increase amount should be set to this sum. At the weekend, however, the EVG strictly rejected this proposal as insufficient.
Ver.di is again calling for strikes at airports
Passengers at Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Cologne/Bonn airports will also have to be prepared for delays and flight cancellations in the next few days. The trade union ver.di has called for renewed warning strikes from Thursday. Longer waiting times up to flight cancellations or cancellations are to be expected, ver.di announced in a statement.
The industrial action applies to employees in the aviation security sector who work in passenger control, personnel and goods control and in service areas. The strike usually begins on the night from Wednesday to Thursday and ends on the night from Friday to Saturday.
Negotiations with BDLS falter
Ver.di has been negotiating with the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies (BDLS) for years to increase the time supplements for night, Saturday, Sunday and public holiday work and to achieve better overtime pay. Despite the recent strikes, there has been no breakthrough so far.
A written offer from the BDLS is insufficient and cannot be agreed upon, because it does not bring any improvements for work on Saturdays and Sundays, surcharges for night work are too low and are only planned from 10 p.m. and not from 8 p.m. Employers for full-time and part-time employees did not want to pay any supplements for overtime or overtime.
BDLS to “submit negotiable offer”
“We call on the BDLS to finally present a negotiable offer in the negotiations on April 27th and 28th in order to avoid further strikes and to end the conflict before Pentecost,” said ver.di representative Wolfgang Pieper on behalf of the union .
Most recently, the continuation of the talks on April 11 and 12 did not lead to a solution and the employers did not submit an improved offer. “Work at airports must become more attractive in order to be able to keep aviation security specialists and recruit new ones in order to avoid long waiting times for holidaymakers,” Pieper continued.
The EVG and ver.di – at that time for the public service – had already struck parallel on the same day at the end of March and thus paralyzed almost all public transport.
